We can certainly say that we are well and truly into the production phase of the project and have moved out of the conceptual. This week we have been working on actually producing things, or rather setting things up so they can be produced. For example one of the things Josh and I did this week was setup the social media accounts that will run for this campaign (Instagram, Facebook and Youtube). Although all three of these platforms are best used in different ways, we want to keep the brand voice and feel to be cohesive and as such have used the same "In a sticky situation?" about/bio/informational section and the same logo image as profile pictures. The idea of the bio is that in then reads through to the website (getyourexcuse.org) which acts as an answer to the question. We also came up with the idea of making situations in the same format as our instagram content (which Josh made the template of this week too) or web content for the different media we use to introduce the project, but relate to that media.
We are also going to carry this across to the documents we submit for studio to keep it all cohesive as well as introduce the content in an interesting, humourous manner. The idea is to show that the project is well though out across all channels therefore enticing users to give it a go as they know its not just a basic one off thing.
In the meantime Liam has been working on making a version of the generator that allows us to quickly edit the entries and set me up on the database so I am able to edit the situations too. This won't directly affect the final product of the web app but allows us to quickly iterate on the content and eventually will lead us to have a more polished final product. A large portion of my time is now spent refreshing this page to see all the different possibilities that it can spit out and see what works and what doesn't work. As it turns out a lot of verbs we initially though would be funny don't actually make sense so that is my current job, curate the words and situations so that we have like a 97% success rate because we will never get it perfect but also what is funny is subjective so no one will ever find 100% of the situations to be good. Going through them though has highlighted the fact that even for studio but especially if we are to roll this out, we need to come up with more words and situation starters as you can go through them very quickly and it is the novelty that really makes them enticing.
For the week 8 formative we are aiming to have the website and the situation generator tested, separately as otherwise it would be our final product and we are not there yet. But testing the generator to see if it is engaging enough and if people in the target demographic would use it and then also test the UX and UI of the website to see if it effectively delivers the intended message and if it fits with the generator. Up until now we have been testing both of these with people but in small sections and not with the other part as context. The idea of this test is to test what we will actually make all together as "a cohesive product" before we go ahead and actually make it, to essentially iron out any of the kinks and double check we are going about it the right way.
